I understand now that there were some things that I could
not change as well as things I should not have attempted to
change nor mess with because God has his plan for me and he
is the captain of this ship, NOT ME !
I remember the first time seeing my father, or should I say
the first time seeing him. I was about 10 or 11
years old. I remember playing in my grandmother’s front yard
all alone.
This car pulls up in front of the house were I was playing,
it was a baby blue Cadillac that sparkled in the sun, with
tinted windows and white wall tires. WOW! This must be
someone really cool.
The window rolled down on the passenger side and there was
this beautiful woman. But it was not my mother.
And there was some dude! He was calling me by name as if
he knew me. “Lionel! Lionel! Come here son”. So I walked
over to the car and he mumbled some words that sounded like
“I’m your daddy!” He then reached over and handed me a wad
of money and said “don’t spend it all in one place. Tell
your mom I said hello.”
I watched as the car pulled off until it was out of my
site. Now I did see him one more time after that. I was
standing at the bus stop and he pulled over and told me to
get in. He asked me where I was going.
I can’t remember a lot of what we talked about; as a matter
of fact we didn’t talk. But he did say this before he let
me out. He asked, “do you have a girlfriend?” I was like
“Yeah!”, but thinking to myself “where did that come from?”
He looked at me and said “when she messes up, get another
one.”
Well, needless to say, that “dude” and I did not spend
anymore time together fostering any kind of relationship,
but he spent time with a lot of women. This is what I saw
this is what I thought how a man should be nice car, a lot
of women ,and money.
Though I never developed any type relationship with this so
called “man” (father), I have since met a man named Jesus
and he has been kind enough to introduce me to his Father.
We have been friends ever since.
Do you
want to know about a man?
If you want to know about a man’s character, look into his
wife’s face, listen to what his son’s and daughter’s say
about him, talk to his co-workers and neighbors.
